FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
WHAT KIND OF WORK ARE YOU LOOKING FOR?
Here at Nervous Ghost Press we are looking for all kinds of work. We want work that speaks from the heart without hesitation. Any theme or style, form, and genre - we want raw, uncensored, honest writing.
HOW DO I KNOW IF MY WORK IS READY TO SUBMIT?
We know that you put in long hours and hard work into creating your submissions and we promise to work just as hard when we read them.
We like to ask a few questions when thinking if our own work is ready for publication:
Is it a project piece? Does it do what I want? How do the poems fit together (if more than one)? Does the story progress in a way that I'm happy with?
And that leads us to one of the most important questions: Are you happy with your work?
If you are happy with your work and there are very few (if any) grammatical errors, we want to read it.
WHO WILL READ MY SUBMISSION(S)?
Each submission will be read by a team of readers and editors who are artists, writers and teachers with graduate degrees in creative writing, literature, and other disciplines.
WHY IS THERE A READING FEE?
The reading fee allows us to accept submissions from writers at any level in their career. The fee also makes it possible for us to work with talented readers and editors who give each submission the care and focus it deserves.
WHAT IF I CAN'T AFFORD THE READING FEE?
We all remember shoveling out hundreds of dollars to presses in hopes of publication only to be met with rejection letters. Heck, we still do it. If our reading fee is too large for you, please contact us and we can work something out. We want to be as accessible as possible to as many writers as we can. Nothing is too little and our readers/ editors appreciate everything they receive.
WHEN WILL THE ANTHOLOGY BE RELEASED?
We plan to release Writing for Life Spring 2020. Our design team is hard at work preparing everything we need to make sure the process runs smoothly.
DO YOU ACCEPT EMAIL OR SNAIL MAIL SUBMISSIONS?
Email and snail mail submissions will not be read. All submissions should be submitted via the Submittable portal on the submissions page. Using this program allows us to read and respond in a timely and efficient manner.
WHEN WILL I BE NOTIFIED IF MY WORK WAS ACCEPTED?
Due to the amount of submissions we receive, we may not be able to respond to every single submission. We will, however, try our best to respond within 3-6 months after the reading period ends.
